TOLERANCE WITHOUT LIBERALISM

There has been a rising Islamic fundamentalism, and intolerance cases in contemporary Indonesia. The fundamentalism problem Indonesia particularly points to the Wahhābi for its puritanical ideology as root of cases. This article aims analyse Indonesia’s largest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) responses towards group. Being forefront struggle against fundamentalist groups post-New Order Indonesia, this argues that NU adopts an intolerant approach dealing with their dakwah (preaching) activism. Taking close look at local branch Jember, East Java, organisation’s is indeed ambiguous.
